Emergency Room & Intensive Care Unit AHC

er_ahcOne of the greatest accomplishments of Angkor Hospital for Children remains our superior level of intensive care. Our Emergency Room (ER) is open 24 hours a day and sees over 1,500 critically ill children each month.

Common emergency cases

Like any ER around the world, our medical team see a variety of cases everyday. In Cambodia, some of the most common illnesses treated are sepsis, premature births and severe asthma.

When necessary, children are admitted to the hospital’s four-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU) isolation rooms. The ICU offers high-level treatment such as mechanical ventilation, blood gas analysis, and inotropes. Additionally, palliative care is available to terminally ill patients. In 2001 children were admitted to the ICU with no ventilator care, today we have eight of the highest standard ventilators.

Advanced medical training

All ER doctors and nurses have completed Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) and are continually learning thanks to the education provided at AHC.
